PXE Boot help

  1. 2 years ago

hey there, I'm fairly new to the pxe booting world. But heres my issue, I can't seem to get the client boot menu to load. The clients are pulling an IP from my server but the error in the log is as follows: "1092 Request 2 not processed"

I have a feeling its the boot image im trying to use but I'm a little lost with the different kernel selections and such. Any help would be apprecaited. Thanks!

Are you using tftpd32 for dhcp also? Can post that entire log after starting a pxe boot.

  3. I am using tftpd32, im using a standalone environment so I have to supply the log the old fashion way:

Rcvd DHCP Rqst Msg for IP 0.0.0.0 Mac (*gives mac address*)
Previously allocated address *gives ip address*
    244 Request 2 not processed

its a short log, so im assuming i missed a step somewhere

So it appears to me the address is not being assigned, the pxe transfer isn't even starting. Is the ip you assigned to your nic in the same subnet that you assigned to tftpd32? You can share the ip's if they are private such as 192.168.*.* there is no harm.

  5. The second line in that log is "Previously allocated address 192.168.1.5 acked". Shouldn't that mean its getting the address?

my server is 192.168.1.223, it looks like it gives the client im using 192.168.1.5 ( i made the pool start at .2 with 100 addresses)

It does but I don't think it is completely finishing for some reason. In the dhcp tab I believe there is a checkbox called ping before assignation or something like that, try unchecking that.

  7. update:

I'm an idiot and didnt change the boot order, but you're right, its failing DHCP

    Did you try this?

In the dhcp tab I believe there is a checkbox called ping before assignation or something like that, try unchecking that.

  9. boom! you're a genious! I'm at least at the boot menu now.

  10. now, I cant seem to upload an image, it's failing to mount the SMB share. I've checked all security settings and I'm not sure what I'm missing.

2 local windows accounts were created during install, I would reset the passwords, and then update the distribution point passwords to match

  12. Tried that...no dice

  13. I can acccess it from another workstation on the network as well
