Unable to load mod_mono.so during Ubuntu Tutorial

  1. last year

On Ubuntu 14.04 and when doing the first restart of the apache2 service I receive the following:

    • Restarting web server apache2 [fail]
    • The apache2 configtest failed.

    Output of config test was:
apache2: Syntax error on line 140 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/mod_mono.load: Cannot load /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_mono.so into server: /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_mono.so: undefined symbol: unixd_config
    Action 'configtest' failed.
The Apache error log may have more information.

  2. Fix it... The Tutorial NEEDS an update! Here is what I did:

    1. Removed Debian sources and added Ubuntu 14.04 from Mono's site
    2. apt-get remove --purge mono-devel libapache2-mod-mono
    3. apt-get remove -y mono-devel libapache2-mod-mono

I was then able to restart apache2 without the mod_mono.so error

  3. clonedeploy

Thanks for the info, someone else had also just reported the same thing. I will update the docs accordingly.
