Problems with "Change Computer Name"

  1. 2 weeks ago

I have used CloneDeploy over a year now, and it works perfectly. Except for one thing.

I can't change hostnames when deploying. If I check "Change Computer Name" from profiles, Windows will go to boot loop and will not start. I uploaded two deploy-logs. One is with the "Change Computer Name" checked, and one is without.
    Change Computer Name ON: http://valo.biz/Automaatioluokka01-deploy_fail.txt
    Change Computer Name OFF: http://valo.biz/Automaatioluokka01-deploy_success.txt

Computers are Dell Precision Tower 3620 XCTO with i7-7700K, 16GB DDR4, 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD-drivers and Nvidia Quadro M2000 GPU:s if that helps at all.

Even within "success" .txt I can see some errors, but Windows 10 Edu works perfectly and I'm very happy with CloneDeploy. But now we started using OPC-UA with Beckhoff TwinCAT and Visual Components and they are not happy when there is 32 computers with same hostname in the network..

I would appreciate tremendously if you could help me.

  2. clonedeploy

    Oct 4 Administrator

This is now being reported by a few different users. My best guess is that something changed with later versions of Windows 10 that is causing this. CloneDeploy modifies the registry to change the name. The only work around currently is to use sysprep. Then CloneDeploy will change the name via the sysprep answer file instead of the registry change.

  3. I wouldn't fix this if I were you. People should be using sysprep and clearly a lot of people aren't.
