CloneDeploy DHCP Proxy Subnets/Multisite



  • Trying to give access to our clone deploy server across different subnets same VLAN

    These PXE Clients will be in different countries so the DHCP request will be going through multiple routers...

    Does IP Helper need to be added all router hops to destination? or just the first router?
    Can IP Helper just be added to the first CISCO SWITCH only? (Converting DHCP Broadcast to unicast)

    There is a bunch of ACL controls on our network...

  • Also, is ip helper and next server the same?



  • I'm not a networking specialist so I can't really say, but I believe only the last router would use the ip helper for the CloneDeploy address, because the hops before that wouldn't know how to route there, the previous routers would probably need something different.

    Ip helper and next-server are the same if proxy and tftp are on the same server.

    We use BluecatAddress Manager(BCAM). In the (BCAM) router config I can set a next-server but have not until I'm 100% on what it means.

    We you say 'last' router I'm assuming we both agree this is the router closest to the PXE Client because that is where the broadcast originates.
